Hygeia ex Machina is not just a drone but an initiative aiming at improving the way we perform medical and transplant deliveries both in the developed and emerging worlds.
It is known that transporting medical supplies by road vehicles over long distances or in harsh and unfriendly terrain is inefficient and sometimes risky. In many instances accidents can occur due to traffic, long-drive fatigue or negligence leading to medical transport delays even in countries with advanced infrastructure. Moreover, in cases of natural disasters or other emergency situations the need for medical relief is eminent and long delays can become the deciding factor between the rescue and loss of human life.
With these in mind our team decided to work on a drone that can perform medical cargo deliveries in a safe, practical and user-friendly way. During the conceptual approach of the Hygeia Ex Machina (HEM) UAV, the team developed a methodology building a numerical code for the requirements evaluation and a methodology for the concept design depending on the outcome of the requirements evaluation and the aircraft’s possible layouts keeping in mind the components’ arrangement succeeding the optimum dimensions. A continuous feedback between the CAD design and the regulations was necessary in order to include adjustments and improvements for the final concept.
We strongly believe that our humanitarian purpose drone HEM is a viable and cost-efficient way to revolutionize medical cargo transportation but at the same time it can be easily adapted to the EASA and FAA standards and regulations.
