Overview for SUPAM
We are very proud to present the jury our drone which is a very capable machine, robust, handy and very user-friendly, fulfilling all this challenge requirement. Our team is composed by three young French engineers specialized in aeronautical and mechanical engineering and working in the industry. Each one of us is an airplane and drone enthusiast. We used all our humble knowledge and skills in order to design this very particular drone.
The drone we present for the challenge requires vertical take-off and landing capability, a range capability of 100km (with a cargo payload of 3 kg) and airplane handling capability. Our drone is based on an aircraft design capable of taking-off and landing vertically. This is ensured by using engines dedicated to vertical flight. They are placed using a quadcopter layout. We basically chose to design a hybrid machine for very simple reasons. First, an airplane design remains the most efficient one to achieve long range flights and cannot be equaled by other designs. Second, drone history has proved the capability of agile quadcopter design when performing vertical flights. For these reasons, we chose to build a hybrid drone, using all advantages of both designs. The result of this project is a convertible drone, manufactured using carbon composite for wings, fuselage and engine pylons and with cargo payload located in its nose.
